Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia aims to have 40,000 "Red and White" Village Cooperatives (KDMP) operational by the end of 2026 as part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen the country's rural economy, an official said.
Deputy Minister of Cooperatives Farida Farichah stated here on Saturday that the government is focusing equally on infrastructure development and preparing the human resources needed to manage the facilities.
A primary priority is training cooperative managers to ensure they can operate the businesses professionally from day one.
"This ensures they have the capacity and competence to build, develop, and manage the cooperatives professionally right from the start of operations," Farichah said.
The success of the program depends not only on the physical buildings but also on the quality of the managers running them, she said.
To support the rollout, the government will host intensive managerial training from July 17 to 31, 2026.
The program will cover essential cooperative governance, business management, and community service standards to turn the village units into thriving local economic hubs.
According to data from the program's official information system (Simkopdes) as of July 9, 2026, the government has verified 35,870 construction sites nationwide.
Approximately 20,000 units are currently under construction, while 15,500 cooperatives have been fully completed, keeping the ministry on track for its year-end target.
