Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has expressed full support for the upcoming ICANN87 Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Bali on October 17–22, 2026.
The ministry’s support was conveyed during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria, the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI), and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) at the Komdigi office in Jakarta recently.
According to a statement received on Sunday, Nezar welcomed the visit by PANDI and ICANN as part of preparations for the global internet governance forum.
He also said an invitation for Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid to attend and officially open ICANN87 would be forwarded for further consideration.
The meeting was attended by ICANN Vice President and Managing Director for Asia Pacific Samiran Gupta and PANDI Chairman Isnawan.
The participation of both organizations reflected ongoing coordination ahead of ICANN87 in Indonesia while reinforcing support from various stakeholders for the global internet governance forum.
“PANDI appreciates the support and collaboration established with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs,” Isnawan said.
As the local host of ICANN87, PANDI said the ministry’s support would play a crucial role in ensuring the successful organization of the global forum, particularly through cross-sector coordination, event preparations, and efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global internet governance ecosystem.
In addition to discussing preparations for ICANN87, PANDI highlighted the importance of continued coordination among Indonesian stakeholders in addressing domain name abuse, including cases involving illegal content such as online gambling.
PANDI has implemented an integrated mechanism through the Indonesia Domain Abuse Data Exchange (IDADX) platform to support monitoring, analysis, and coordinated responses to domain name abuse in a more structured manner.
Samiran Gupta also expressed appreciation for Nezar’s positive response to ICANN’s visit to Indonesia.
The meeting also discussed Komdigi’s support for technical preparations, including coordination on customs and immigration procedures.
