MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will embark on a working visit to Singapore from July 14 to 16 to strengthen the Philippines’ bilateral relations with the fellow Asian nation, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced on Monday.
During the visit, Marcos is scheduled for a courtesy call with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, where he will push for the strengthening of the two nations’ cooperation in trade and investment, environment, health, and regional and global development.

“The President will also participate in the Milken Institute’s private roundtable discussion at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, where he will engage with business leaders as part of the government’s efforts following the Philippines’ recognition as an upper-middle-income country,” said Castro at a briefing.

First lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who will join the trip, will deliver a message at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit upon the invitation of the Future Economic Cooperation Council—an Indian-based economic platform that gathers business and government leaders to promote global strategic economic cooperation.
In 2022, several groups and lawmakers criticized the attendance of Marcos, Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos, and then-Speaker Martin Romualdez, at the Formula One (F1) Grand Prix in Singapore in October that year.
In September the following year, Marcos was once again hit for attending the F1 series in the same country amid the economic crisis in the country.
Malacañang later admitted that Marcos had traveled to Singapore, calling it a “productive” weekend since he had spoken with a Singaporean official at a conference. /coa /mr
