CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu Marathon, one of the province’s premier road races, officially announced that its 2027 edition will be held on January 10.
The announcement, through its Facebook page on Sunday, July 12, comes after the event drew widespread criticism over the past two editions due to organizational issues.
During the 2026 race, participants expressed frustration after the much-awaited finisher’s medals arrived late at the venue, forcing organizers to delay their distribution. The Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC), the event’s longtime organizer, later issued a public apology, along with medal manufacturer Suarez Arts.
The 2025 edition also faced backlash following a chaotic medal distribution at the finish line.

The designated claiming area was reportedly left unattended, resulting in a free-for-all that allowed even non-finishers to obtain medals intended exclusively for race finishers.
Several participants also complained about the post-race meal in 2025, although organizers addressed those concerns during the following year’s event.
New organizing group to help
In response to the recurring issues, the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), headed by chairman Dr. Rhoel Dejaño, will oversee the staging of the January 10, 2027 race.
Dejaño confirmed to CDN Digital that the CCSC, in partnership with the Cebu City Government, will supervise the event alongside a new organizing group that will manage the marathon.
The CERC, meanwhile, will remain involved as a consultant.

According to Dejaño, the goal is to provide participants with a smoother and more enjoyable race experience.
He declined to disclose further details, saying the organizers will formally unveil the changes for Cebu Marathon 2027 during a media launch in the coming weeks.
