John Stamos Says He Was Kicked Out of a Scientology Building for This Reason
Dylan Sprayberry is sharing new insight into his spiritual journey.
The Teen Wolf alum, who played Liam Dunbar in the series alongside Tyler Posey and Dylan O’Brien, shared that he converted to scientology years ago amid his sobriety journey.
“Lately I’ve been posting some really cool informational videos from the Scientology Instagram account and the Scientology affiliated accounts on my Instagram Story and there have been some people who have been curious,” Sprayberry said in a video he shared on Instagram July 12. “I am a Scientologist. I’ve been a Scientologist for three years now and it’s been an epic experience for me and it’s been so fantastic.”
Sprayberry noted that he has been “clean and sober” for around five years, and while it was immediately rewarding for him, it felt as though something was missing when he first detoxed.
“I was having this feeling where it’s like, ‘OK I’m sober now I’m really proud of myself. I do feel the difference of being off drugs,’” the 28-year-old recalled. “But I started to think back on my life and the decisions that I’ve made.”
He continued, “The reason that I got on to drugs in the first place is because when I was a teenager I was experiencing a ton of anxiety and depression.”
And when he cut out substances, the Man of Steel star realized his internal struggles had only gotten more difficult to face.
“I was like, ‘I’m sober but I realize now that I was trying to handle that anxiety and that depression with these drugs and now that I’m sober I can tell that it’s still there and it was just suppressed,’” Sprayberry continued. “I was using those drugs to try to handle that but all it did was make the anxiety and depression worse. I put myself into a difficult game there.”

But amid his search for answers, Sprayberry said he was “lucky enough to meet some Scientologists” and had a powerful takeaway from one of founder L. Ron Hubbard’s books.
“I had a huge realization, which sounds so silly to say now, but it’s that happiness is not something that I have to get, it’s something that I create within myself,” Sprayberry explained. “Even though that’s so simple, it was a big slap on the head to me. I was like, ‘Oh wow I’ve been creating my state of being all this time.’”
As he put it, “The whole reason I was depressed and anxious and all this stuff is because I wasn’t creating that happiness for myself.”
And now, Sprayberry emphasized his newfound faith has him feeling better than ever.
“I am great now, I’m doing great,” he mused. “I just wanted to share it with you guys because it’s been such a special experience for me and I’ve gotten to get to such a good place in life and I’ve been doing genuinely fantastic.”
