The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 63 suspects, including eight women, during a coordinated raid on suspected criminal hideouts across Damaturu metropolis.
The command said the operation, carried out on Saturday, July 12, involved personnel from the Damaturu Area Command and Divisions ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, targeting identified criminal black spots.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement on Monday, said the raid covered Mass Transit, Family Support, Zango CMC, Finance, Nayinawa Primary School, Jerusalem Ajayi, Moduri and Sunday Market.
He said exhibits recovered from the suspects included Tramadol tablets, Valium-5 tablets, nine Pentazocine injections, a liquid substance locally known as “Sholi”, another liquid substance referred to as “Suck and die”, suspected Indian hemp, axes and other dangerous items.
According to the police spokesman, the suspects are undergoing investigation and those found culpable will be arraigned in court.
Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kamfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged officers to sustain the ongoing crackdown on criminal elements and encouraged residents to provide timely information to security agencies on suspicious activities.
The police commissioner said the operation would be sustained and intensified across the 44 local government areas of Kano State, stressing that it was intelligence-led, technology-driven and community-focused.
He urged vehicle owners to register their vehicles, obtain standard number plates and ensure they were clearly displayed at all times.
Bakori also appealed to residents to cooperate with security personnel and provide credible information that could assist the police in tackling crime.
