Why Tom Holland Says He's on "Cloud 9" at ‘The Odyssey’ Premiere
Anne Hathaway would wait decades for Adam Shulman.
In fact, it was the actress' love for her husband of nearly 14 years that helped inspire her performance in The Odyssey as the character Penelope, who waits 20 years for the return of her husband Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.
“I am one of the luckiest people on the planet Earth,” Hathaway told Justin Sylvester during the Live from E! Stream at the film's New York City premiere July 14. “I met my soulmate, and we decided to get married and have a family.”
The 43-year-old noted that costar Damon felt similarly about his marriage to Luciana Barroso Damon.
“We both kind of started playing these characters in this deep love relationship,” she added, “knowing that it was possible.”
Indeed, Schulman helps Hathaway—mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6—feel like the Princess of Genovia IRL, as she raved that she had the best accessory of the night as she and Shulman are currently expecting their third child.
“Cannot be beat. This is a lovely microphone,” she quipped to E! while cradling her baby bump, “but I prefer my accessory.”
While they’re eager to welcome baby No. 3, Hathaway—who tied the knot with the producer and jewelry designer in 2012—recently admitted that she and Shulman were a little surprised to learn she was pregnant again.
“It’s amazing. We knew what we were doing,” she joked on the July 13 episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, “but we were so shocked it worked.”

She added with a laugh, “We were so shocked it went this way, so we’re calling this one our buzzer-beater."
Hathaway and Shulman first crossed paths at the Palm Springs Film Festival in 2008. And according to the Oscar winner, she instantly felt Shulman was the only one for her, telling Harper's Bazaar U.K. in 2013, “I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life."
Hathaway is also grateful that he has been there to support her this year as she premiered five films in 2026: Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The End of Oak Street, Verity and, of course, The Odyssey.

"He supports me completely. This year in particular was unusual. He and I both know that it’s probably never going to happen like this again,” she shared with People in April. “And the way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, he’s the most extraordinary person I’ve ever met.”
"I’m so lucky that he’s my partner that I spend my life with,” Hathaway added. “If I didn’t know that before this past year, I think I really know it now because with absolutely everything he’s just, he’s on it. He holds it down. I hope that doesn’t sound like I’m bragging, but he’s a dream partner to me."
The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17.
