
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 3,316 police officers for security ahead of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.
“These 3,316 are separate from our PNP personnel performing regular police duties,” PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said during a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday.

Co noted that a gun ban is now being implemented by the police force in the region starting July 16 and ending on September 29.

“Our police officers in uniform and those authorized by the Comelec (Commission on Elections) to carry firearms during the election period are exempted,” he said in Filipino.
“All other permits to carry [firearms outside residence] are suspended during this period,” he added.
The BARMM parliamentary elections are scheduled on September 14. /mcm
