Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and India exchanged views on practical strategies to improve human resource quality and boost technological innovation to navigate the digital era during the BRICS Labor and Employment Ministers’ Meeting 2026.
Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli met Indian Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on the sidelines of the forum in Hyderabad, India, on Wednesday (July 15), noting the host country as Indonesia’s “important partner in human resource development.”
“As two big developing countries with dynamic economies and sizeable young populations, Indonesia and India can exchange experiences in building a competitive, inclusive workforce that is well prepared to face labor market changes,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Yassierli conveyed eagerness to take notes from India’s best practices in nurturing a digital ecosystem that contributes to job creation, skill development, innovation, and technology-centered investment.
He highlighted Indonesia’s interest in learning effective approaches to developing data centers and digital infrastructure while implementing initiatives to improve artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities involving the government, business associations, and industry.
“It is important to support digital transformation with quality human resources. For that reason, developing AI talents, strengthening digital competencies, and implementing reskilling and upskilling programs are essential to help workers adapt and seize opportunities arising from technological change,” he said.
The minister further suggested that Indonesia and India expand cooperation into capacity-building initiatives for vocational training instructors, with emphasis on fields related to digital technology.
Regarding informal workers, Yassierli highlighted opportunities for collaboration to expand access to training and entrepreneurship programs while strengthening social protection as well as occupational safety and health standards.
He added that Indonesia is open to partnering with India through technical exchanges, expert dialogues, and study visits to strengthen manpower governance.
“Indonesia is committed to strengthening its partnership with India, both bilaterally and within the BRICS framework, to promote decent work, enhance workers’ competitiveness, and build resilient labor market institutions that are responsive to technological transformation,” he remarked.
