The opposition 5-Star Movement (M5S)
said Thursday that it has presented one million amendments to
the ruling centre-right coalition's bill on hunting as part its
effort to stop legislation it says will harm Italy's wildlife.
The bill extends the length of hunting seasons, reduces
protected natural areas to increase land designated for hunting
and increases the number of species that can be hunted, among
other things.
"There are a million reasons to oppose the government's insane
plan, which does not aim to regulate hunting but to devastate
animals and nature," said the M5S as it presented the initiative
with representatives of animal-rights and environment groups
LIPU, WWF, ENPA, and LAV.
"When a law endangers our country's natural heritage, it's not
enough to just say 'No.'
"We must do everything possible to stop it".
