MANILA, Philippines — The graft complaint filed against Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has been dismissed due to “insufficient evidence,” Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said Thursday.
Clavano made the pronouncement as the National Bureau of Investigation announced it intends to probe alleged irregularities surrounding the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Dizon, who chaired the Bases Conversion and Development Authority at the time, oversaw much of the infrastructure for the 2019 SEA Games Complex in New Clark City.

“Upon checking the records of this case, it appears that the case filed against Sec. Vince Dizon, etc., regarding the construction of the sports facilities for the 2019 SEA Games has been dismissed for insufficiency of evidence,” Clavano said in a statement.
Clavano said the dismissal was contained in an Ombudsman joint resolution issued in December 2021.
Matibag earlier said the NBI intends to examine alleged anomalies in the country’s hosting of the SEA Games, including about P10 billion in unliquidated funds, the lack of competitive bidding for some projects, and the controversial P50-million cauldron. /mcm
