Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia continues to actively encourage and facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties in Myanmar to help restore peace and stability under the framework of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC).
Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir affirmed that Jakarta remains committed to bridging the divide between Myanmar's military-backed authorities and various ethnic groups.
"We continue to strive to facilitate dialogue between the military-backed authorities and the various ethnic groups there," Nasir said following a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to Nasir, Indonesia's commitment to resolving the Myanmar crisis has been unwavering since it hosted the historic ASEAN Leaders' Meeting in Jakarta in April 2021.
The meeting yielded the Five-Point Consensus, which serves as the primary mechanism for ASEAN's peace efforts.
The determination to adhere to this framework was recently reaffirmed during an informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers with Myanmar representatives in Bangkok, Thailand.
Indonesia has declared its readiness to serve as a neutral host for peace and reconciliation talks if requested by the conflicting parties.
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia's diplomatic standing makes it a highly acceptable mediator for all sides involved in the civil war.
"We are ready if Indonesia is chosen as the host. I think Indonesia would be more acceptable for that role," Sugiono said following the 6th Indonesia-Vietnam Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting on Tuesday.
Sugiono added that he had formally conveyed this offer of goodwill during the informal ASEAN ministerial gathering in Bangkok.
He reiterated that the 5PC remains the bloc's absolute reference point, emphasizing an immediate end to violence across Myanmar, inclusive dialogue among all parties to seek a peaceful solution, the safe and non-discriminatory delivery of humanitarian assistance, and the appointment of a special envoy to facilitate mediation.
