MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will work closely with ride-hailing companies after two separate incidents in which motorcycle taxi riders were fatally stabbed in Caloocan City and in Cavite.
“The Philippine National Police recognizes the public’s concern following the recent incidents involving motorcycle taxi riders,” it noted in a statement on Thursday.
“While these cases have been addressed through the arrest of the suspects, we will continue to work closely with motorcycle ride-hailing companies, local government units, and other stakeholders to strengthen measures that help protect riders, passengers, and the public while preventing similar incidents,” it stressed.

The stabbing incident in Caloocan City occurred early morning last Tuesday, while the Cavite case happened last July 9.
The national police force also took note of a photo now circulating on social media in which a motorcycle rider had written a message on the back of his helmet, saying “Buntis ang asawa ko. Huwag niyo po ako sanang saktan [My wife is pregnant. Please don’t hurt me].”
“The message seen on the back of a rider’s helmet reflects the simple hope of every hardworking Filipino—to return home safely to their loved ones after a day’s work,” the PNP said.
“As the cases move through the justice system, we remain committed to ensuring that all those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law,” it added.
It further appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the 911 emergency call system. /jpv
