KANCHANABURI - Police have arrested two teenaged relatives of a seven-year-old girl whose body was found in a rubber plantation in Kanchanaburi province, with both suspects reportedly confessing to causing her death before disposing of the body.
“Nong Angoon” had been missing from her home for three days before her body was discovered on June 1 beneath a bamboo clump in a rubber plantation in Thi Khrong village Moo 4 of tambon Prang Phle in Sangkhla Buri district.
Police and forensic officers on Saturday morning went to Thi Khrong village to question a juvenile relative suspected of involvement in the girl’s death.
The suspects were subsequently identified as “Pae”, 17, the victim’s uncle, and “Kanda”, 13, her elder sister. Both confessed to their involvement in the girl’s death, police said.
The pair told investigators that they were at home with Nong Agnoon on May 30 and had been playing together. At one point they placed a fertiliser sack over her head and pretended to strangle her. However, the girl suddenly became unresponsive. They said they removed the sack but found that she had already died.

Panicked and fearful, they decided to conceal the death. After regaining their composure, they placed the girl’s body into a wardrobe, then transported it using a motorcycle with a sidecar.
At around 3pm on that day, they reportedly drove to a rubber plantation opposite the Chao Pho Khao Yai shrine, where they dumped the body in a bamboo grove before returning home and behaving as if nothing had happened, according to police.
Police on Saturday escorted the 17-year-old suspect to re-enact the crime at two locations: the victim’s home and the site where the body was disposed of.
The 13-year-old was not taken for the re-enactment because she was a minor. Both suspects were later taken to the Sangkhla Buri police station for further questioning.
Residents who gathered at the scene to observe police operations expressed shock upon learning that the suspects were members of the victim’s family. Many also said they felt relieved that investigators had identified those responsible for the girl’s death.
