Seven people have been identified by the GNR in connection with a suspected drug landing on the Algarve coast near Boca do Rio, in the Algarve municipality of Vila do Bispo.
The operation was launched early on Monday morning after members of the public alerted authorities to suspicious boat movements close to shore, according to national tabloid Correio da Manhã.
The alert was raised at around 6.40am, prompting a response from officers from the GNR’s Coastal and Border Control Unit as well as personnel from the Faro Territorial Command.
Although authorities investigated the suspected landing, no drugs were recovered during the operation.
According to CM, those identified include both Portuguese and foreign nationals aged between 21 and 44.
None of the individuals were formally arrested.
The circumstances surrounding the suspected operation remain under investigation, and the case has now been handed over to the Judicial Police (PJ), which is responsible for leading inquiries into drug trafficking offences in Portugal.
