A new phase of Faro‘s water network rehabilitation project begins on June 17, forcing traffic diversions to part of Rua do Alportel until the first half of September.
The works will take place on the section between Rotunda 738 and Avenida Aníbal Sousa Guerreiro as municipal company Fagar continues a major upgrade of the city’s public water supply infrastructure.
During the works, traffic will be prohibited in the affected area, with diversions in place via Avenida 25 de Abril, Estrada da Penha and Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, or alternatively through Avenida Aníbal Sousa Guerreiro and Estrada Senhora da Saúde.
Given the scale of the intervention, Fagar has warned motorists to expect additional congestion and traffic disruption in surrounding areas.
The latest phase follows the completion of resurfacing works on Rua Dr. José Filipe Álvares, where vehicle circulation has now been restored.
According to the municipal company, the project, which began in September last year, represents a major investment in modernising Faro’s water infrastructure and improving the quality of service provided to residents.
The works form part of Fagar’s strategy to strengthen the efficiency and resilience of the public water supply system by reducing water losses, minimising pipe failures and improving reliability in an area that has experienced recurring breakdowns.
Funded through the Algarve 2030 programme, the contract was awarded to SUBMERCI – Construção e Urbanizações and represents a total investment of €1.29 million.
In total, the project includes the rehabilitation of approximately 2.37 kilometres of water mains and 110 domestic service connections.
The overall works are expected to be completed in December.
