Jennifer Lopez Details Her Emotions About Her Twins Max, Emme Going Away to College
Jennifer Lopez is reflecting on a terrifying experience.
The “Jenny from the Block” hitmaker detailed how juggling the demands of her early career took a toll on her body in the 2000s, leading to the temporary loss of her eyesight and motor function.
"When I was doing Enough, I think I had done like four movies in a row, and I had recorded my second album or something like that, so the JLo album, which was really big,” Lopez told Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett on the June 15 episode of their Smartless podcast. “And I was working, filming every day.”
“And then I would go into the studio at night, and then on the weekends, I had junkets or video shoots or whatever,” she added. “And I remember not clocking that I had worked like 98 days in a row without taking a day off.”
While filming her 2002 movie Enough, Lopez said the lack of rest finally caught up to her.
"I went back to the trailer, and I sat down, and all of a sudden, like, I just couldn't see,” she recalled. “It was almost like I couldn't see clearly, like something just went over my eyes, and I couldn't move.”
"We went to the hospital,” she continued. “And I said to the doctor, 'Am I going crazy?' And he said, 'No. You're not crazy.’”
Rather, the doctor informed her that her body had "shut down" from exhaustion.
Noting that she didn’t “realize her limits” at the time, a lot has changed since then—including her anonymity. As she also realized at that time, her skyrocket to fame came with more than just physical challenges.

During one instance, Lopez recalled how she initially thought she was getting mugged after suddenly being approached by a group of fans. But once she understood that they were supporters of the “On the Floor” singer, she realized she’d likely never be able to fly under the radar again.
"I think in my mind, I thought, 'You can't get that back. That's something that lasts forever,'” she said, “and I remember that's when I started having panic attacks.”
"That was getting used to fame and realizing your life had changed in a way you couldn't control anymore,” she added. "You can't go back.”
