LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — A low-pressure area (LPA) monitored outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) explained that there was still a low possibility of the system intensifying within the next 24 hours, but it might strengthen in the coming days.

As of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, Pagasa located the LPA at 3,060 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
No direct effect on Ph
The bureau forecasts two possible tracks for the LPA, which are common paths when El Niño conditions are present.
The system may enter PAR and hover over the corner of its boundary, with no direct effects on the country’s weather.
Pagasa said no tropical cyclone wind signals would be raised by then.

On the other hand, it may also traverse near the PAR before recurving away from the country.
The bureau said that either track would still enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, causing rains across Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao during the weekend.
Easterlies prevail
Meanwhile, the easterlies, or warm winds blowing from the east, have continued affecting the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao.
Pagasa said no widespread rain were expected across the country on Wednesday.
However, isolated rains or thunderstorms may occur beginning at noon due to localized thunderstorms.

Localized thunderstorms are brief, intense weather disturbances limited to a specific area, often caused by intense heating.
The bureau advised the public and local government units to continue monitoring weather updates throughout the day.
