PNP says no orders to track people linked to alleged ICC warrants

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday maintained that it has no special instructions to track individuals who may be the subject of alleged arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“As of this time, the PNP has not received any official communication, documentation or directive from any government agency regarding the alleged ICC warrants,” the agency’s chief, Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., said in a statement.

“Since there is no official document relayed to the PNP yet… no special instructions have been issued to police units to monitor or track any individual in connection with such rumors,” he noted.

It was Davao City Rep. Pulong Duterte, who claimed in a social media post on Wednesday night that a “highly reliable source” had told him the global tribunal issued a warrant to arrest Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go and two police officers.

However, both Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said there has been no formal communication regarding the supposed ICC warrant.

“We rely on formal processes and verified information, not speculation or social media posts,” Nartatez further stressed.

“The PNP will perform its mandate in accordance with the Constitution, existing laws, and established procedures. We will neither preempt the process nor neglect our responsibilities,” he added.

Go has been identified by the ICC as a co-perpetrator in the crimes against humanity case against former President Rodrigo Duterte, the Davao City representative’s father who is currently detained at the Hague, Netherlands.

Although Rep. Duterte did not identify the two police officers he claimed were the subject of ICC arrest warrants, former PNP chiefs Oscar Albayalde and Vicente Danao have also been named as alleged co-perpetrators of former President Rodrigo Duterte in the case.

In May, the ICC confirmed that it had issued an arrest warrant for former PNP chief and now Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who went back into hiding after briefly resurfacing at the Senate.

Meanwhile, former PNP chief Camilo Cascolan was also named by the ICC as an alleged co-perpetrator in the Duterte case, but he died in 2023.
