
Prime Minister Robert Abela has officially been sworn in as Parliament reopened for the first sitting of the new legislature following the 2026 general election.
The sitting was presided over by newly elected Speaker of the House Carmelo Abela, who took up the role shortly before proceedings got underway.
Opposition Leader Alex Borg was also officially sworn in, marking the beginning of his first legislature as leader of the Nationalist Party.
Meanwhile, former PN leader Bernard Grech was elected Deputy Speaker of the House, with his nomination put forward by the Opposition.
