
Prime Minister Robert Abela met with European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath at Auberge de Castille to discuss governance, justice and the rule of law.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Abela outlined the government’s intention to continue implementing reforms related to governance and the rule of law.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister also said that one of the government’s priorities during its first 100 days is the establishment of a National Human Rights and Equality Commission.
The government described the proposed commission as a further step towards strengthening equality and human rights in Malta.
Justice, Research and Innovation Minister Clifton Grima was also present for the meeting, alongside senior government officials and advisers.
The meeting forms part of ongoing engagement between the Maltese government and European institutions on issues relating to justice, governance and the rule of law.
