Iglesia ni Cristo spokesperson Edwil Zabala on Tuesday morning said it supports Sen. Rodante Marcoleta who is set to face a plunder complaint before the Sandiganbayan over a P75 million campaign contributions case.
He did not, however, state whether or not the Eds rally is being held in support of Marcoleta.
The religious group questioned why Marcoleta, whom it described as the “very person pushing to expose those involved in the massive corruption in the country,” was now the one being charged, instead of those who were named in the flood control scandal.

“The Iglesia ni Cristo supports what Senator Marcoleta stands for because it is also our position. We call for transparency, accountability, justice, and peace,” Zabala said.
“Even if they imprison Senator Marcoleta, we will not stop seeking justice for our fellow citizens who were robbed,” he added.

Marcoleta alleged that the impending plunder case against him was part of a coordinated effort to prevent him from participating in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which is set to begin on July 6. /gsg/dp
