Morgan Kohan, who plays Maggie Sullivan in the drama series Sullivan’s Crossing, is opening up about the new season without Scott Patterson.
After Patterson announced he was leaving the show after three seasons, the series continued without Patterson’s Sully, and Kohan addressed the big change in a recent interview.
“We all knew that it was going to change things and that the audience would definitely have a reaction to that,” Kohan told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. “But I really do think no matter what, when there’s going to be such a big change in a show that’s so loved in the way that it is, it does open up so many new opportunities. And I love so many of the characters that we get to bring in this season.”
She continued, “It shifts things for Maggie. It changes her sense of grounding at the Crossing, too, and who she goes to for guidance. It shakes things up in a nice way.”
Although Patterson is not reprising his role, viewers who have followed the series will get an update on Sully, with Kohan saying, “It’s not like [he] was just going to be never acknowledged again because Sully is such a presence.”
After three seasons on the show, Patterson left the series, explaining in a statement, “I fell in love with Sully and have nothing but fondness for him. The creative differences were becoming untenable and I just sadly realized that the show was not something that I could agree to continue.”
Sullivan’s Crossing is a Canadian drama from CTV, which is co-produced with The CW. The series is based on Robyn Carr’s novel about neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan (Kohan) who finds herself in legal trouble and returns to her hometown to reconnect with her estranged father, Sully (Patterson).
