CONSOLACION, Cebu – Washed ashore by the tide or left behind by visitors?
Several pieces of Garbage were found scattered along the baywalk of one of the malls in the South Road Properties (SRP), as documented by a couple during their visit to the area.
The concerned couple reported to CDN Digital that what was supposed to be a peaceful photo walk turned into a “massive disappointment” after they saw the condition of the area.
Photos they shared showed plastic bottles, food packaging, discarded footwear, children’s toys, butane stove canisters, and other waste strewn across the shore.

“While some of the rubbish were definitely washed ashore by the waters, which we can differentiate because they look old, most of it were left by people there,” they said.
Marine debris is often carried to coastlines by tides and currents. However, the couple noted that some of the waste appeared to have been improperly discarded by people visiting the area.

In Cebu City, littering is prohibited under the city’s Anti-Littering Ordinance (City Ordinance No. 136). Violators may face fines starting at P1,000 for a first offense, increasing to P5,000 for succeeding offenses.
“It’s just so sad to see that state,” the couple said, expressing concern over the amount of trash scattered across what is meant to be a public recreational space.
As more people flock to coastal destinations, proper waste disposal remains essential in protecting both public spaces and the environment.
While the government continues to implement environmental programs and enforce anti-littering laws, the public also has a shared responsibility to do its part in keeping these areas clean.
