Labour Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said has congratulated newly elected Nationalist MP Andrew Agius, who recently made history by becoming the first veterinarian ever elected to the Maltese Parliament.
In a Facebook post, Bugeja Said welcomed Agius to Parliament and said she looks forward to working with him on what she described as an important and crucial sector.
Agius secured a seat through the Nationalist Party’s District 7 casual election, filling one of the vacancies created following the recent general election.
A veterinary surgeon by profession, he described himself as “extremely proud” after becoming the first vet to serve in Malta’s Parliament.
His election formed part of the PN’s casual election process, which also saw Stanley Zammit, Graziella Attard Previ, Ian Vassallo, George Vital Zammit, John Baptiste Camilleri and Graham Bencini elected to Parliament.
The public message from Bugeja Said marks a rare moment of cross-party recognition, with both politicians sharing a strong connection to Malta’s animal welfare sector.
