Ateneo drowning probe: Baldwin arrives at CIDG

MANILA, Philippines — Former Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball team Tab Baldwin arrived at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City, on Friday.

This is in connection with the CIDG’s investigation into the fatal drownings of Ateneo players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a training activity along the shore of Dipaculao, Aurora, earlier this month.

Baldwin arrived shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Neither Baldwin nor his camp gave statements to the media. Reporters were also barred from approaching the CIDG headquarters.

The then-Ateneo men’s basketball head coach was previously subpoenaed by the CIDG last Monday, but his legal counsel appeared instead, prompting the police unit to issue a second subpoena.

Baldwin previously apologized over Baterbonia and Adili’s deaths in a video posted on Ateneo’s social media four days after the incident.

Ateneo then announced his resignation in the wake of the incident./coa
